About the Developer

Azul is owned by New Zealand-born developer Jannene Harker, the only female developer in Central America. Jannene chose Nicaragua to call home only 2.5 years ago and in that time has designed and managed projects for the build of four houses and a restaurant.

A rural background setting and a practical approach to living a life more simply enabled Jannene to jump off the treadmill and seek a life less ordinary.

All of this experience and knowledge in eco-development, now called Azul, seemed to be the next natural progression. No insignificant undertaking, Jannene has managed to implement rainwater catchment systems, build an eco-friendly yoga platform, and turn the “once peanut farm” into an oasis of plants and fruit trees.

Attracted to northern Nicaragua initially because of the raw, powerful, challenging surf; black sand beaches; and a lower cost of living; Jannene has now broadened her horizons to assisting the greater community, especially in the areas of animal welfare and local sport.

Jannene hopes to attract more environment and community-minded people to Azul.
